As the female breast contains limited anatomical support, external support, usually in the form of a brassiere, is worn to descrease excessive breast motion and associated breast pain.

As the causes of breast pain and the consequences of excessive breast motion are not known, brassiere designers need to address
structural issues within sports brassiere design that deter active females from wearing them.
